So proud I'm ready to burst

I just got a call from A., who is at a convention with his grandparents, to tell me that he was awarded not just one but two scholarships for $1000 each. WOOHOO!!! Way to go A!!!

His grandparents, his father's parents, belong to a club associated with their ethnicity (not going to say which nationality or which club) and they have invited A. to go with them to the annual convention for the last few of years. He's gone when he could and really enjoyed it. He missed it last year because he was doing that whole summer camp program.

The local club for this organization gave him the scholarship application back in February. He dutifully filled it out and submitted it before the deadline (haha - actually I had to ride his @ss and bug him about the application over and over but he did get it done before the deadline. Kids today!! @@). Anyway, the luncheon to announce the scholarship winners was today. He called me right afterwards to share the good news. I'm not sure he even realized there was a possibility of more than one scholarship, so he was floored to have won 2.

I'm so proud of the young man he is turning out to be. He managed to pull his grade point average up enough to get the state lottery scholarship and now this too. Just goes to show what he can accomplish when he sets his mind to it. I hope it's a lesson he takes with him to college and applies himself from the beginning instead of having to battle back from not-so-good grades like he did in high school. Yeah, right, who am I kidding?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that he got his scores back on the AP (advance placement) exams he took a few months ago. He scored really well on them and will be starting college with 12 credits!! That's my boy!!!
